The Bible contains 66 books written by more than 40 Holy Spirit-inspired authors over a period of about 1,500 years. The books are contained in the Old Testament and New Testament, and are commonly grouped as follows: Old Testament – law, history, poetry, major prophets and minor prophets New Testament – gospels, history, epistles, and revelation The Old Testament points toward the coming of the Messiah, Jesus Christ, the Savior of the world.
